Crochet, Knit or Sew Uglee Dolls 4 Kids

Uglee Dolls Quick FAQ’s June 4, 2011

WHO ARE WE: Just 2 friends who wanted to do something to help out where we saw the need. We’ve now expanded to 100+ people in the US, Canada and overseas. We started crocheting Uglee Dolls to be sent to the children that have recently been affected by the recent storms and tornadoes in the United States. Our first shipment is for Joplin, Mo. We are currently working on adding in additional shipments to Tuscaloosa, AL and other areas.

WHO CAN JOIN IN: This is for anyone who wants to help out. Crocheters, Knitters, and even those that sew are welcome to make these dolls to be shipped out to the kids. Additional ways to support this project can be anything from passing this information out to friends and family or even donating supplies: yarn, felt, fabric, ribbon, safety eyes and poly-fill stuffing.

What are Uglee Dolls? Uglee Dolls are a creation by Caroline Chrisco at The Kansas Hooker (crochet). Her blog is found at http://thekansashooker.blogspot.com/

Caroline has announced: “I will donate 50% of the proceeds of any uglee doll purchased at my shop to the American Red Cross Joplin Relief Fund. I can also send it to the collection location if you wish.”

When do these dolls need to be completed? I am asking for all dolls to be shipped out by July 1,2011 in order for them to be shipped in the 1st shipment to Joplin, MO on July 9, 2011. This will allow a little extra time due to the July 4th holiday.

Why did I create this project? The ideal came from a friend. We were both speaking with one another about all the storms and tornadoes in the past couple of months. We understand that these things occur frequently and being Christian we also understand that these things although they are from God. God is also right there with the people in the midst of the storm. God uses these horrible tragic occurrences to bring us back to him in repentance and receive his great mercy and forgiveness.  Being forgiven in Christ, we look to help our neighbor, not because of our own salvation, Jesus took care of that on the cross, but our neighbor is the one in need.  Instead of being selfish like most Americans are today, it drives us to be selfless and giving. One cannot help but to see someone in need and help them.

So watching the news and you tube videos, I wanted to help out somehow. I’m unemployed due to health reasons, so money is very tight. However I have a bunch of free time and I can crochet. I found Caroline’s pattern and started to think of a way that we could have people throughout the Crafting Community join together to make these dolls for the kids. They are being taken care of with food and water, clothes, etc.. But many of them no longer have their favorite toy, much less any toy. These are soft and cuddly and allows for the kids to hold onto something that is now theirs. They are loved and cared for.

After the 1st shipment goes out, I would love to expand this to other areas including Alabama. That is one that is close to my friends heart. She grew up there. She has lost family members in the recent tornadoes.

This is all in the Lords hands. He will either let this continue to grow or not.  I am just placing the information out here and pray that we have the support.
